Our review of the annotated history reveals the following legislative history (every “c.” below represents a separate legislative bill):
Added: 1972, c. 1417
Amended:
• 1974, c. 23: amended subdivisions (b) and (c) to allow city attorneys to act as well as the director of consumer affairs district attorneys and the Attorney General.
• 1976, c. 1002: deleted “acting with the approval of the Attorney General” following “or any district attorney” in the first sentence of the first paragraph and added the second paragraph to subdivision (b).
• 1989, c. 947: inserted subsection (3) in subdivisions (a) and (b); in subdivision (c) inserted “by adequately substantiating the claim”, “or misleading, do either or both of the following” and “or why such claims are misleading” and designated subsections (1) and (2); and added subdivisions (f) and (g).
• 2006, c. 538: nonsubstantive code maintenance bill to make grammatical corrections.
• 2016, c. 38: added references to county counsel in (b) and (c)
