Our review of the annotated history reveals the following legislative history (every “c.” below represents a separate legislative bill):
Added: 1959, c. 427
Amended:
• 1961, c. 381: added subdivision (c) relating to the interest of a recipient of public services.
• 1963, c. 1950: in the introductory paragraph, inserted “or employee” and rewrote subdivision (a).
• 1968, c. 1276: designated the existing text as pars. (a) to (c) of subdivision (1) and added par. (d) of subdivision (1) and subdivision (2) relating to certain landlords or tenants and contracts which are competitively bid.
• 1971, c. 1054: added subdivision (1)(e) relating to the interest of a tenant in certain public housing authorities.
• 1973, c. 414: inserted “of the authority or of a community development commission created pursuant to Part 1.7 (commencing with Section 34100) of Division 24 of the Health and Safety Code” in subdivision (1)(e).
• 1975, c. 611: inserted “of the authority or of a community development commission created pursuant to Part 1.7 (commencing with Section 34100) of Division 24 of the Health and Safety Code” in subdivision (1)(e).
• 1977, c. 706: substituted “of” for “or” in subdivision (1)(c) preceding “public services” and added subdivision (1)(g) relating to the interest of a nonsalaried member of a nonprofit corporation.
• 1980, c. 110: redesignated subdivisions (1) and (2) as subdivisions (a) and (b); in subdivision (a) redesignated pars. (a) to (g) as pars. (1) to (7); substituted at the end of the introduction to subdivision (a) “his or her interest is any of the following” for “his interest is”; substituted throughout the rest of the section “him or her”, “his or her”, and “he or she” for respectively “him”, “his” and “he”; and added the two paragraphs of subdivision (a)(8) relating to the interest of a noncompensated officer of a nonprofit, tax-exempt corporation.
• 1991, c. 382: added subdivision (a)(9) relating to a government agency officer’s or employee’s compensation for employment with another governmental agency.
• 1996, c. 1133: added subdivision (a)(10), relating to attorneys of contracting parties, and added subdivision (a)(11), relating to personnel with less than 10 percent ownership interests in banks or savings and loans.
• 1999, c. 349: rewrote subdivision (a)(9) and made nonsubstantive changes in subdivision (a).
• 2000, c. 87: added subdivision (a)(12) relating to certain nonprofit, tax-exempt corporations and their officers and employees.
• 2005, c. 348: at the end of subdivision (a)(2), substituted “duties” for “duty”; in subdivision (a)(3), substituted “body or board” for “board”; in the second sentence of subdivision (a)(8), inserted “the” preceding “duties”; in subdivision (a)(11), inserted commas following “employee of”, “interest in”, and “of borrower”; and added subdivision (a)(13).
